Not un-coincidentally coming around the same time as the “Hey Google” Summit, new pictures have leaked of the Nest team’s next smart speaker. Leaks came via images submitted to a Japan government agency website (equivalent to the US’s FCC).

Leaks were pretty much confirmed by the fact that Google sent photos to tech sites of Googlers playing around with the new smart speaker products in staged home environments (doesn’t sound like they’re trying to keep this a secret). So we’re getting a good idea of the design, shape and size of the new speaker. It’s display-less and looks like it will sit somewhere above the original Google Home but obviously smaller than the Home Max.

No news yet on what new features the speakers will have but no doubt we’ll find out soon. On our wishlist would be sensors that could detect presence for more presence-based automation possibilities.
