In a sign that Netflix has more money than they know what to do with, the streaming giant will be canceling accounts that have been dormant for a year or more.

Netflix will make efforts via email to try and reactive the account but if there is no response from the customer they will continue with canceling their account. Netflix said these zombie accounts only represent a few hundred thousand users, or less than half of 1% of its overall member base.

While we joke about the purpose of this news we actually find this practice as useful, especially for multiple account households. There’s likely been situations where many family members have signed-up to the same service only to start using it under the one umbrella account (usually the parents’) without cancelling the soon-to-be-dormant accounts.

Looks like Netflix has helped automate our home organisation a little.
